The Serenity Prayer
Group members stand in a circle and hold hands while they
speak this prayer. It hold a powerful message.
GOD, grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.
Amen
The rest of the Serenity Prayer is not as well known, but
is a beautiful promise of hope. The prayer was penned
by Reinhold Neibuhr in 1926.
Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a
time;
Accepting hardship as the pathway to peace.
Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not
as I would have it.
Trusting that He will make all things right if I
surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life, and
supremely happy with Him forever in the next.
Amen
The Serenity Prayer is used as a part of most, if not all,
12 Steps meetings... not just in A.A. However, they generally
follow the meeting format - and the methodology - invented by
Alcoholics Anonymous.
